Sixteen-year-old Danya Powell is a Christian recording artist and songwriter. Gifted by God to share the message of His grace-filled Gospel through words and music, she is a talented musician and composer. A member of ASCAP, she has written over 300 songs and plays the piano, keyboard, and guitar.
Danya grew up singing in church and began piano lessons at the age of six. At the age of eleven, she was invited to join the teen worship band "Without Shoes" (then based out of First Baptist Church, Madison, TN) as keyboardist. The band played together for three years, regularly leading worship at FBC. "Without Shoes" completed an album project in 2004 and opened for one of CCM artist Jessie Daniels' concerts the same year.
Danya enjoys leading worship for the youth at FBC, and she continues to accept opportunities to lead worship at area churches, youth conferences, and community events. She often accompanies her mom, providing worship at women's conferences, mother-daughter retreats, and girls' events. In the spring of 2007, Danya completed a solo album project, "Everything's Changing." In 2008, Danya went back into the studio, this time with a full band. The result was a self-titled project reflecting the best of Danya's worship rock, while retaining several of the acoustic tracks.
Danya has served as opening act for Christian groups like Me in Motion and Charmaine, and most recently for Fox TV's "The Next Great American Band" runner-up, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra.
